Dr. Kara Spencer is a psychologist in Wayside, Oregon who spends most of her time volunteering and building her community, but sometimes she forgets to take care of herself. Enter Marcus Ambrose, an R&B singer, in town for Waysideís music festival. They are thrown together at a panel discussing stereotypes and the cultureís obsession with celebrities. The panel reveals that Kara might have some stereotypes about successful entertainers that Marcus feels compelled to dispel. While their attraction grows, Kara is unsure about Marcusís commitment to God. Kara introduces Marcus to her extensive family and the joys of life in Wayside. There is a question as to which Spencer sister Marcus prefers. Another point causing Kara emotional distress is Marcusís career and the purpose of his music. SPOILER: This is solved as Marcus is making a career adjustment, attempting to transition from his love songs heís known for to songs about the ultimate Love. He proves himself in a spectacular fashion: cutting an record dedicated to God, giving Karaís sister a music career break, and proposing to Kara during a huge church concert.
